The replica of Shakespeare's 1599 Globe Theatre was the project of Sam Wanamaker. In 1970, Sam established the Shakespeare Trust which did the impossible of making way in 1993 to begin construction of the Globe. The Globe was completed in 1997, but Sam never saw the fulfillment of his project since he died in 1993.

Our guide had a game: instructions like "stop", "go", "clap", "jump" "love" and "hate" had to be followed up. At the end, the instructions were changed to the opposite. A pan-around of Shakespeare's (reconstructed) Globe Theatre in London. We were groundlings, standing on the floor immediately in front of the stage. (Besides being cheaper, it's also quite a unique experience in itself!) This is where, in the 16th century, the peasants watched the show; those with more money sat in the seats encircling the stage. The show that night was the "Comedy of Errors." The only thing really spoiling the experience was the inevitable airplanes flying overhead.
